What is it?
'Plan C' is a summary of JBA's actions to do our bit to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our business and our world. It will see us working with our clients and our suppliers to combat climate change, reduce waste, safeguard natural resources, and to trade ethically and sustainably. We're doing this because it's also the right thing to do.
The key tenets of the plan are to:
- Reduce our consumption of resources;
- Re-use supplies;
- Recycle.
Climate change
From the beginning of 2007 JBA became a carbon neutral company. We are achieving this by monitoring our carbon footprint, reducing our carbon emissions wherever possible (for instance by purchasing green energy and using public transport). We then purchase carbon credits or plant our own trees to reduce our overall carbon footprint to zero.
We also help our suppliers, cut carbon emissions too.
Waste
We are doing all we can to stop sending waste to landfill sites and are working with our customers to supply our services in forms that have least impact on the environment (e.g. web-based delivery, digital versions of reports).
Measurement
Internal targets have been set for:
- Energy consumption;
- Paper and printer consumable use, re-use and recycling;
- Reduction in car use.
Achievement of these targets will be monitored through the JBA Integrated Management System and results reported on our website following inclusion in our annual Environment Report.
Staff Environmental Reward Scheme
To encourage and reward low-carbon commutes to work, JBA operates a bonus scheme for those staff who walk, cycle, car-share or use public transport to work for at least some of their journeys.
Supporting Small Suppliers
As an SME business, we believe strongly in the better service and greater sustainability of local and community based businesses. As a company we purchase as many goods and services as we can from local suppliers. Our head office is in Skipton, a small market town in the Yorkshire Dales and we purchase virtually all our professional service needs (accountancy, advertising, legal) from local firms and hence do our bit to support a thriving local business economy.
Fair partner
By trading fairly, we'll improve the lives of those people in our supply chain and our local communities. We source our office supplies, food and other materials from Fair Trade organisations or suppliers where we can.
