The Flood Risk Assessment division of JBA has been established to provide strategic planning, consultancy services and solutions for clients' flooding issues. These can be from river basin to brownfield site adjacent to a watercourse.

Government is committed to taking a risk-based approach to manage flooding risks. This requires the delivery of flood risk assessments to consistent standards and their articulation in common terms. Our Flood Risk Assessment Division has worked with the EA in expanding these policies and setting best practice. Whether it is in delivery of national coverage flood maps, strategic flood risk assessments for Local Development Frameworks or developer promoted sites JBA has the recognized skills and tools to assess and describe flood risks over varying temporal and spatial scales. This ability is unrivalled, and hence why we are in high demand for expert advice and representation.

With a proven track record, our team of high calibre professionals apply the latest technologies to a broad range of flooding issues including coastal, tidal, river & land and urban drainage.

Particular areas of skill include:

  • Strategic flood risk assessments for planning authorities and large asset owners
  • Broad scale modelling of river basin hydrological processes
  • Flood risk mapping
  • Development of flood warning and forecasting systems
  • Flood-action planning and training of staff for operational response
  • Site flood risk assessments
  • Drainage assessments
  • Climatic change scenario modelling

We are familiar with Planning Policy Guidance in all areas of the UK -SPP7 (Scotland), TAN15 (Wales) and PPS15 (Northern Ireland) and PPG25/PPS25 (England) and have provided advice to planners, developers and insurance companies on flood risk.

JBA is a framework supplier of flood risk mapping services to the Environment Agency for England and Wales and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency. We provide flood risk management services to the insurance industry in Europe and to the railway, telecoms and highway sectors.

The Emergency Planning team of JBA has been established to provide a service for emergency exercises and independent reviewing and audit of emergency plans and procedures. With over 30 successful major flood exercises completed over the last seven years and the delivery of the first national major flood exercise in the UK in June 2004 (over 2000 people over 2 days), JBA have successfully shown their ability to plan, present and analyse emergency control post and table top exercises. Exercises have been delivered for flood warning, pollution, utilities, foot and mouth and power exercises.
