We have recently relocated our Bramham office to Tadcaster and are working towards creating the same high standard of information and literature available for our other offices.

Tadcaster is a market town in North Yorkshire, England, lying on the Great North Road approximately 15 miles east of Leeds and 10 miles west of York. It is the last town on the River Wharfe before it joins the River Ouse about 10 miles downstream. It is part of the shire county of North Yorkshire, despite being further south than York, the traditional centre of Yorkshire and thus historically in the West Riding. The town is twinned with Saint Chély d'Apcher in France.

The ancient market town of Tadcaster has a long and chequered history. It is surrounded by the beautiful and varied Yorkshire countryside, making it an ideal place for touring the County. Tadcaster lies between Leeds (15 miles to the west) and York (10 miles to the east), on the A659 and bypassed by the A64 . It is the last town on the river Wharfe before it joins the River Ouse, about 10 miles downstream. The present bridge crossing the river was built around 1700 and was based on the first stone bridge built in 1200. Originally named Calcaria (place of limestone) by the Romans, it was initially a small settlement, serving as a resting place for travellers and a staging post on the London (Londinium) to York (Eboracum) road. The market in the town was initiated when Henry de Percy obtained a Charter from King Henry III in 1270 and was originally held at the junction of Kirkgate and Bridge Street - Market Place. The town contains many historical and architectural treasures such as the 12th century St Mary's Church with its beautiful East window; the 13th century motte and ditch of the Norman Castle, the Ark, originally built in the late 15th century and now the Tadcaster Town Council Offices, and many buildings from the Georgian and other eras. Limestone has been quarried in the Tadcaster area for hundreds of years and used in many famous buildings, including a Roman Fort in York and York Minster. The Battle of Tadcaster was fought around the Tadcaster river bridge in the Civil War and at Towton, three miles away in 1461, a decisive battle settled the War of the Roses. The high quality Tadcaster water is drunk throughout the world in the famous beers that are brewed in the three breweries in the town.
